Safe & Stylish Residential Pool Fencing in Sydney – Because Your Family Deserves Both

Nothing beats watching the kids splash around in the pool on a hot Sydney day… but as a parent (or grandparent), that little voice in your head is always asking: “Is it really safe?” That’s where we come in at Auto Gates and Fencing. We’ve been helping Sydney families create pool areas that are genuinely secure and look fantastic for years. No ugly chain-link eyesores here—just smart, compliant fencing that blends right into your backyard vibe.We start by getting to know your space: the pool shape, how the yard slopes, where the house doors are, even your landscaping. Then we design something that ticks every box on NSW pool safety rules while matching your home’s style—whether that’s sleek modern minimalism or something a bit more classic.

What Makes Our Pool Fencing Different?

We don’t just slap up a barrier and call it a day. Here’s what you actually get with us:

  • Real consultation We come out, measure properly, listen to what you want, and talk through options that fit your budget and look.
  • 100% NSW-compliant Every install meets the latest rules: at least 1.2m high from ground level, no gaps over 100mm, self-closing and self-latching gates that swing outward, latches at least 1.5m up, and a clear 900mm non-climb zone around the outside so nothing gives kids a leg-up.
  • Materials that last in Sydney weather – Toughened safety glass (frameless or semi-frameless for that invisible look), powder-coated aluminium that won’t rust near the coast, or custom designs if you’re after something unique.
  • Clean, precise installation Our own team handles it—no subcontractors. We finish on time, tidy up, and test everything so the gates close smoothly every single time.
  • Peace of mind extras Gates with reliable self-closers, child-proof latches, and options to integrate access controls if you want that extra layer.

The goal? A pool fence you barely notice… until you realize how much safer and more enjoyable the space feels.

Custom Styles to Suit Your Sydney Backyard

Every pool and every home is different, so why settle for one-size-fits-all? We offer flexible choices so your fencing feels like an extension of your outdoor living:

  • Frameless glass Almost disappears, giving uninterrupted views of the pool and garden. Perfect for modern homes where you want maximum visibility and a luxurious feel.
  • Semi-frameless glass A bit more structure with slim aluminium posts—still super clear but adds subtle strength and style.
  • Aluminium slat or panel Durable, low-maintenance, and available in colours to match your house. Great for coastal spots or if you prefer a more defined barrier without blocking light.
  • Custom touches Want decorative tops, integrated lighting, or a specific height/finish? We can make it happen while keeping it fully compliant.

No matter the style, we always include those must-have self-closing gates and secure latching so compliance isn’t a worry.

Pool Fencing FAQs – Your Common Questions Answered

We’ve heard these questions from heaps of Sydney families over the years, so here’s the straight talk on what really matters for keeping your pool safe and compliant.
1. Do all pools in NSW need fencing?
Yes, pretty much! If your pool (or spa) can hold more than 300mm of water—including portable, inflatable, or above-ground ones—you need a compliant safety barrier. The rules are there to prevent tragic accidents, especially with little ones around. Even temporary pools over 30cm deep fall under the same laws.
2. What’s the minimum height for a pool fence in Sydney/NSW?
It has to be at least 1.2 metres (1200mm) high, measured from the finished ground level on the outside of the fence. If you’re using your boundary fence as part of the barrier (e.g., separating from the neighbour’s yard), that side needs to be 1.8 metres high on the pool side to stop easy climbing.
3. What about gaps and spaces in the fence?
No gaps bigger than 100mm anywhere—between vertical bars, under the bottom of the fence and the ground, or between panels. Kids are clever at squeezing through tiny spaces, so the rules are strict on this. For mesh or perforated fences, holes can’t be bigger than 13mm in most cases.
4. Do the gates have to close automatically?
Absolutely—gates must be self-closing (they swing shut on their own when released) and self-latching (the latch clicks automatically). The latch has to be at least 1.5 metres above ground level so little hands can’t reach it. Gates should open outwards, away from the pool area, for extra safety.
5. What’s this “non-climbable zone” thing?
It’s a 900mm clear space around the outside of the fence (and sometimes inside) with no climbable objects like trees, furniture, BBQs, pot plants, or even your house wall too close. Nothing should give a child a foothold or handhold to get over. We always check this during our site visits to make sure everything’s set up right.
6. Can I use glass pool fencing? Is it compliant?
Yes—frameless or semi-frameless glass is super popular in Sydney because it looks amazing (almost invisible views of the pool!) and meets all the rules when installed properly. Toughened safety glass is durable, easy to clean, and doesn’t rust in our salty coastal air. We love it for modern backyards.
7. What about aluminium or other materials?
Aluminium is tough, low-maintenance, and comes in colours to match your house—great for Sydney’s weather. Horizontal slats or vertical panels work well too, as long as they hit the height, gap, and non-climbable requirements. We only use premium, weather-resistant stuff that lasts.
8. How often do I need to get my pool fence inspected or certified?
In NSW, if your pool was built or approved after certain dates, you might need a compliance certificate every 4 years (or when selling the house). Local councils can require inspections, and it’s smart to check your fence yearly anyway—things like gates wearing out or plants growing too close can sneak up on you.
9. What happens if my fence isn’t compliant?
Fines can be hefty (up to $5,500 in some cases), and more importantly, it’s a safety risk. Councils do random checks, especially after complaints or when selling. But don’t stress—we can assess your current setup for free and help you book a site inspection to sort upgrades if needed..
10. Can you help if I’m building a new pool or upgrading an old fence?
Of course! We handle everything from initial consultation to installation — simply contact our team here to get started.. Whether it’s glass for that sleek look or sturdy aluminium for everyday family use, we’ll make sure it’s safe, legal, and looks great.
